Norfolk sits in the far northwestern corner of Connecticut, deep in the Litchfield Hills, where the terrain is genuinely rugged by New England standards — elevation changes, rocky outcroppings, dense hardwood forests, and a climate several degrees cooler than the Connecticut coast. It is one of the least-developed corners of the state, and the landscape has a quiet, old-money seriousness to it that suits a private country club well.
Norfolk Country Club carries the character of that setting. This is Gilded Age and early 20th-century New England golf country, where private clubs were built as extensions of summer estates and retreat communities, and where the land itself does most of the design work. A course here would almost certainly ask golfers to contend with significant elevation and tight, tree-lined corridors rather than open, manufactured terrain.
As a members-only club in a small, wealthy village of fewer than 2,000 residents, Norfolk Country Club almost certainly serves a close-knit membership — the kind of place where the course is protected, unhurried, and taken seriously by those lucky enough to have access.
