Few courses in Kent carry quite the backstory that Redlibbets does. Opened in 1996 and designed by Jonathan Gaunt, it was carved through ancient woodland on the edge of the North Downs, giving it a mature, established feel that belies its relatively recent origins. The layout makes intelligent use of the natural tree lines and undulating terrain, rewarding accurate driving and thoughtful course management over raw power. It has built a strong regional reputation as one of the better private members' clubs in the county.
The setting near the village of Ash places it in a part of west Kent that feels genuinely rural despite sitting within easy reach of both the M25 corridor and the Channel ports. The mix of oak, birch, and sweet chestnut that frames so many of the holes gives the course a distinctly English woodland character — atmospheric in autumn, demanding year-round when the rough fills in.
For visiting golfers, Redlibbets offers a step up from the typical pay-and-play experience. The conditioning tends to be taken seriously here, and the membership culture means the course is treated with care. It plays as a genuine test without tipping into brutality — the kind of course you leave already planning a return.
