Few heathland courses in the English Midlands carry the quiet authority of Whittington Heath. Laid out across the ancient common land south of Lichfield in Staffordshire, the course occupies a landscape of heather, silver birch, and sandy subsoil that would not look out of place in Surrey — a reminder that England's finest heathland golf is not exclusively a southern phenomenon.
