Few places in Mexican golf offer a backdrop quite like Huatulco's. This planned resort destination on Oaxaca's Pacific coast was developed in the 1980s with deliberate attention to preserving its surrounding ecology — a coastline of sheltered bays, tropical dry forest, and Sierra Madre foothills that tumble toward the sea. Las Parotas takes its name from the parota tree, a broad-canopied hardwood native to this coastal region that locals have long valued for both timber and shade.
Playing golf here means navigating a landscape shaped by the tropics rather than a traditional parkland or links setting. The dry season brings firm, fast conditions and brilliant sunshine, while the summer months carry humidity and the lush green overgrowth that comes with Pacific storm patterns.
