Proston sits in the South Burnett region of southeast Queensland, a quiet agricultural district of rolling red-soil country, peanut farms, and dry eucalypt scrub. It's the kind of town where the golf club is genuinely the social hub — a place that exists for the community rather than for visitors, and where a warm welcome from members is essentially guaranteed.
The Proston District Golf Club is a true country layout, the sort of course where the land itself sets the terms. Fairways carved through native bush demand local knowledge as much as ball-striking, and the character of the turf shifts noticeably with the seasons — lush after summer rain, firm and fast through the dry Queensland winter. At par 70, the course leans shorter than a full-length test, rewarding accuracy and course management over raw distance.
For travelling golfers making their way through the South Burnett — perhaps stopping in from Kingaroy or passing through on a regional road trip — Proston offers something increasingly rare: unhurried golf on an unpretentious track with genuine outback Queensland atmosphere.
