Few links in Scotland carry the quiet authority of Moray Old. Laid out along the southern shore of the Moray Firth, this is one of the oldest courses in the north of Scotland, with roots stretching back to 1889 and a design that has been shaped and refined over generations — Tom Morris among those credited with early work on the land. The course occupies a stretch of duneland between the town of Lossiemouth and the sea that feels genuinely elemental: firm, fast, and at the mercy of whatever the Firth decides to send across it.
Lossiemouth itself is a small fishing town on the Moray coast, a region more often associated with whisky distilleries and castle ruins than with golf tourism — which is precisely why Moray Old retains a character that more celebrated links have long since traded away. The course sits beside RAF Lossiemouth, and the occasional roar of jets overhead is simply part of the atmosphere.
The layout rewards local knowledge and punishes complacency, as any honest links should. Subtle bunkering, tightly mown approaches, and the ever-present wind off the Firth mean that par feels earned rather than expected. This is traditional Scottish golf without performance or pretension.
