Chestfield

Few English golf clubs carry as much quiet distinction as Chestfield. Founded in 1924 and designed by the prolific J.H. Taylor — 5-time Open Champion and one of the Great Triumvirate — the course sits on the gently rolling North Kent farmland between Whitstable and Faversham, and Taylor's characteristic strategic use of natural contours remains very much intact. It's a layout that rewards thoughtful shot-making over power, with well-bunkered approaches and greens that punish those who don't take the course seriously.

The setting itself tells part of the story. Whitstable is a small coastal town with genuine character — famous for its native oysters, a working harbour, and a stretch of the Kent coast that feels unhurried and distinctly itself. The club reflects that understated quality: members' golf taken seriously, but without pretension.

At par 70, Chestfield is no pushover. Taylor's design philosophy was built around testing the complete golfer, and a century on, the course has aged into exactly the kind of place that reveals itself gradually, round after round.
