Few courses on Spain's Costa Blanca occupy quite as dramatic a setting as this one. Altea Club de Golf sits in the hills above the coastal town of Altea, in the municipality of Altea la Vella, with the Mediterranean visible across a landscape of terraced hillsides, orange groves, and the pale limestone ridges characteristic of this stretch of the Alicante province. The course works its way through genuinely rugged terrain — elevation changes are real here, not cosmetic, and the views toward the sea and the iconic white-domed church of Altea's old town add a visual backdrop that few courses anywhere can match.
The layout rewards strategic thinking over raw power. Tight fairways threading between the hills demand shape and placement, and approach shots to small, well-defended greens tend to be the card-wreckers. Wind off the Mediterranean is a consistent factor, shifting through the round as sea breezes build through the afternoon.
Altea itself is one of the Costa Blanca's most characterful towns — artisan galleries, whitewashed streets, and a genuine local identity that sets it apart from the more heavily developed resorts to the south. The surrounding golf scene includes Ifach, Don Cayo, and La Sella within easy reach.
