Fort Worth has a long and proud municipal golf tradition, and Rockwood Park Golf Course sits squarely within it. Opened in 1940 and operated by the City of Fort Worth, Rockwood is one of the older public layouts in the region, a genuinely historic place where generations of Tarrant County golfers have learned the game, broken their first 90, and kept coming back for the kind of unpretentious, accessible golf that built the sport's American middle class. It carries the honest character of a classic muni — worn in the best sense, familiar, unapologetically public.
The course occupies a stretch of land along the West Fork of the Trinity River in the city's northwest side, and the terrain reflects the rolling, post oak and pecan country typical of this part of North Texas. The landscape shifts between open stretches and tree-lined corridors, rewarding players who shape their shots and manage the course rather than overpower it.
For visiting golfers, Rockwood offers something increasingly rare: a round that feels connected to the actual community around it, priced and paced for everyday play rather than spectacle. It won't dazzle you with drama, but it earns its place in a city with real golf credentials.
