Greg Norman designed this layout for the Grande Lakes resort complex, which opened in 2003 on Orlando's south side where the Shingle Creek watershed feeds into the broader Everglades ecosystem. The course was built on land that required substantial environmental planning, and Norman worked wetlands and natural water features into the routing rather than treating them as obstacles to be avoided. The result has a distinctly Florida character — wide corridors that tighten when the wind moves, carrying water hazards that demand honest distance management, and the kind of subtropical landscaping that makes you aware you're playing on reclaimed terrain with a history older than the resort.
As a resort property anchored by the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels, the experience is calibrated for guests who expect service to match their surroundings. Caddies, forecaddies, and a well-appointed practice facility come with the package.
Orlando golf skews heavily toward resort and entertainment-driven design, but Grande Lakes carries a bit more architectural seriousness than most in the market — Norman's routing asks real questions rather than simply delivering scenery.
