Few settings in Irish golf match what Ballycastle offers. The County Antrim coastline here is raw and elemental — the Causeway Coast, one of the most dramatic stretches of shoreline in the British Isles, forms the backdrop, with the basalt cliffs and the sea visible from much of the course. Rathlin Island sits offshore, and on clear days the Mull of Kintyre is visible across the water. This is a place where the landscape does as much work as the architecture.
Ballycastle Golf Club is one of the older clubs in Ulster, with roots stretching back to 1890, making it a genuine piece of Irish golfing history. The layout moves through links-style terrain before climbing to higher parkland ground, giving it a dual character that keeps the round interesting from start to finish. The wind off the North Channel is rarely absent and effectively plays as a permanent feature of the course.
Ballycastle sits at the quieter, less-trafficked end of the Causeway Coast golf trail — away from the crowds that Royal Portrush draws, but well within reach of serious golfers exploring the region. The town itself is a working, unpretentious place, and the club reflects that same honest, unhurried character.
