Futrono sits on the southern shore of Lago Ranco, one of the great glacier-carved lakes of Chilean Patagonia, in a region defined by volcanic peaks, dense native forest, and a climate that delivers rain with genuine conviction. The Los Ríos region is not a golf destination in any conventional sense — it is farming and fishing country, Mapuche ancestral territory, a place where the outdoors draws hikers, kayakers, and fly fishermen rather than fairway walkers. Finding a golf course here is a genuine surprise.
Club de Golf Bahia Coique reflects that frontier character. Without the manicured pretension of a resort layout, this is a course shaped by and for its community — the kind of modest, member-driven club that exists to give local players a place to play rather than to impress visitors. Expect turf conditioned by a wetter, cooler southern climate and a layout that works with the natural land rather than imposing on it.
What it offers that no card can convey is the backdrop: Lago Ranco stretching toward the Andes, the smell of rain-soaked coihue forest, and a quiet that most golfers never find on a course.
