Few golf clubs in Sydney carry the historical weight of St Michael's. Founded in 1921, the club occupies a dramatic stretch of coastal headland at Little Bay in Sydney's southeastern suburbs, where the course tumbles across rugged sandstone terrain above the Pacific Ocean. The layout was significantly shaped by the work of prominent Australian architect Harrie Berger, and later refined over the decades to take full advantage of its extraordinary clifftop setting. It consistently ranks among the finest courses in New South Wales and appears regularly in Australian national rankings.
Little Bay sits roughly 20 kilometres south of the CBD, a corner of Sydney that feels genuinely removed from the city despite its proximity. The coastal heath vegetation, salt-laced air, and exposed ridgelines give the course a raw, elemental character — conditions can shift quickly off the water, and wind plays a decisive role in how the par 72 layout actually scores.
St Michael's is a private members' club with a serious competitive tradition, having hosted numerous state and national amateur events. Visitors fortunate enough to arrange a game will find a course that rewards local knowledge and punishes complacency.
