Lafayette sits in the hill country south of Syracuse, where the Finger Lakes region begins to ripple northward into Onondaga County. It's decidedly rural terrain — rolling farmland, old orchards, woodlots, and the kind of quiet that makes central New York feel genuinely removed from the interstate corridor nearby. Golf courses in this corner of the state tend to reflect the land honestly, working with contoured ground rather than against it.
The name Orchard Vali (likely a nod to the agricultural character of the surrounding hills) suggests a layout that grew out of the landscape rather than being imposed on it. A par 71 in this topography almost certainly means at least one par 5 traded for a shorter, tighter hole where the terrain demanded restraint — courses in hilly central New York often find their personality in those asymmetries.
This is everyday upstate golf: affordable, unpretentious, and almost certainly more interesting to walk than a flat scorecard number implies. The kind of place locals defend quietly and visitors tend to underestimate.
