Few private mountain clubs in the American West carry the mystique of Spanish Peaks. Designed by Tom Weiskopf and opened in 2003 as the centerpiece of a luxury residential community, the course occupies a dramatic perch in the Gallatin Range southwest of Big Sky, where elevations push past 7,000 feet and the Madison Range fills the horizon. Weiskopf's routing works with the natural contours of the terrain rather than against them — wide, rugged fairways give way to quick bentgrass greens, and the views from certain tees are genuinely distracting in the best possible way.
Big Sky itself sits roughly an hour south of Bozeman, deep in a valley carved by the Gallatin River. The surrounding landscape is classic northern Rockies: lodgepole pine, sagebrush flats, wildlife crossings mid-round, and afternoon thunderstorms that can roll in fast. Playing golf here feels less like a round and more like an expedition.
Access is reserved for members and their guests, which keeps the experience deliberately unhurried. This is a place for people who want wilderness and refinement in the same afternoon.
