Few private clubs in Westchester County carry the quiet prestige of Glenarbor. Designed by Tom Doak and opened in 2000, it occupies a rolling, heavily wooded tract in Bedford that feels genuinely removed from the suburban sprawl surrounding it. Doak brought his characteristic minimalist philosophy to the site — fairways that work with the natural contours of the land, greens with subtle, deceptive breaks, and almost no artificial earthmoving where nature already provided the bones. Golf Digest has ranked it among the top modern courses in the United States, and it has earned a devoted following among serious students of design.
Bedford itself sits in the northern reaches of Westchester, horse-country terrain characterized by stone walls, mature hardwoods, and a landscape that has changed remarkably little over generations. That unhurried, rural quality seeps into the experience at Glenarbor — this is not a place that announces itself loudly.
Membership is extremely limited and access tightly guarded, which only deepens the course's mystique. For those who do play it, Glenarbor tends to leave a lasting impression precisely because of what it withholds: noise, artifice, and excess.
