Brian Silva's design opens across the glacial outwash plains of Brewster, on Cape Cod's quieter "elbow," where the land tells its own story before you even reach the first tee. Silva — one of the region's most respected architects — routed the course through classic Cape terrain: sandy soil, scrub oak, pitch pine, and the kind of firm, fast conditions that owe more to the ground game than to aerial heroics. The layout rewards creative shot-making and course management, playing differently in the morning calm than it does when the afternoon sea breeze arrives, as it almost always does on the Outer Cape.
Brewster sits on the bay side of the Cape, a town of kettle ponds and conservation land that has resisted the commercial sprawl found closer to the bridges. That restraint carries over to the golf experience here, which leans toward the traditional and unhurried.
Cape Cod National draws a loyal following among serious golfers who appreciate a design that challenges without gimmickry, set in a landscape that needs no embellishment.
