Few clubs on the Maine coast carry the quiet distinction of Webhannet Golf Club. Founded in 1902, it ranks among the oldest golf clubs in New England, and its layout along the tidal marshes and pines of Kennebunkport has changed remarkably little over more than a century. The course plays through land that feels genuinely of its place — coastal grasses, salt air, and views that remind you the Atlantic is never far off. It's the kind of layout where the land itself does most of the design work.
Kennebunkport is one of coastal Maine's most storied summer communities, long a retreat for families who return generation after generation, and Webhannet reflects that culture. The club carries a members' tradition rooted in summer golf — unhurried, sociable, and serious about the game without being showy about it.
At par 71, the course plays slightly shorter than a modern championship test, but the coastal conditions — wind off the water, firm turf, and tricky green complexes — ensure that scoring well here requires local knowledge and real shot-making.
