Wasaga Beach sits at the southern end of Georgian Bay, a stretch of the Ontario shoreline better known for its sandy beaches and summer tourism than for serious golf — which makes Baywood Golf and Country Club a bit of a find for visitors who bring their clubs along with their beach gear. The area's flat, sandy terrain, a legacy of ancient lake beds and glacial activity, gives the land a natural affinity for golf, with well-drained fairways that tend to play firm and fast compared to the heavier clay soils common across much of southern Ontario.
As a country club layout in a resort-oriented community, Baywood carries the dual identity common to courses in seasonal destinations — it serves a loyal local membership while welcoming the wave of cottage-country visitors who pass through Simcoe County each summer. That blend tends to produce a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere on the course.
Georgian Bay's shoulder seasons can be genuinely beautiful for golf, with cooler air, light crowds, and the kind of quiet that disappears once peak summer arrives.
