Mid Herts

Few courses in England can claim an architectural pedigree quite like Mid Herts. The club dates to 1892, making it one of Hertfordshire's oldest, and the course was laid out by Harry Vardon — 6-time Open Champion and one of the defining figures of early golf course design. That lineage alone makes a round here something worth seeking out.

The layout occupies rolling parkland on the outskirts of Wheathampstead, a quiet village in the Lea Valley, and the mature trees and undulating ground give it a sense of permanence and occasion that newer courses rarely achieve. Vardon's routing works with the natural contours rather than against them, and the par 69 layout rewards precision and course management far more than raw power.

Wheathampstead sits in commuter-belt Hertfordshire, close enough to London that the club has long attracted serious golfers who know their history. Mid Herts is members' country — unhurried, traditional, and quietly confident in what it is.
