Golfbaan Sloten

Amsterdam's only full-length public golf course sits at the southwestern edge of the city, in the Sloten polder — a flat, open landscape that feels genuinely removed from the urban density just a few kilometers away. Golfbaan Sloten has served Amsterdam's golf community since the 1980s, offering residents of one of Europe's least car-dependent cities a course reachable by bike or public transit, which is no small thing. The layout occupies reclaimed agricultural land characteristic of the Dutch polder system, with drainage ditches, or sloten — the feature that gives both the district and the course their name — threading throughout the property.

Water is the defining architectural element here, as it is across most Dutch golf. The flat terrain means there is little natural elevation change, but the network of ditches and water hazards demands accurate shot-making and route management, particularly off the tee.

The club maintains a welcoming, accessible character typical of Dutch public-access golf, drawing a broad mix of Amsterdam locals, expats, and visitors who want a proper round without venturing far from the city.
