Nkhotakota sits on the western shore of Lake Malawi, one of Africa's great rift valley lakes, where the water stretches so wide it reads as a true inland sea. It's a town with deep historical roots — and one of the more unexpected places on the continent to find an 18-hole golf club. Kasasa Golf Club exists in that particular tradition of bush golf that took hold across sub-Saharan Africa during the colonial era, courses that were carved from the surrounding landscape with limited resources and a great deal of local ingenuity, and that have since become genuine community institutions.
Without firsthand knowledge of Kasasa's specific layout, architect, or signature holes, it would be dishonest to describe what you'll find hole by hole — but courses of this type in this region typically reward improvisation over power, with natural hazards, firm fairways, and conditions that demand you read the ground game carefully.
What's certain is the setting: equatorial heat, the proximity of the lake, and a pace of play that feels nothing like the manicured resort circuit. This is golf stripped to its fundamentals, played in one of East Africa's most distinctive corners.
