Mirboo North sits in the green hills of South Gippsland, a region of Victoria known for its rolling dairy country, dense state forests, and views that on a clear day stretch toward Wilsons Promontory and Western Port Bay. The town itself is a quiet, self-contained community perched at around 400 metres elevation in the Strzelecki Ranges — terrain that gives any golf course built here an immediate sense of topography and character that flatter, inland layouts simply can't replicate.
The club has the feel of a genuine country members' course, the kind of place where the golf is taken seriously but the atmosphere stays unhurried and welcoming to visitors. An 18-hole layout at par 71 in this landscape almost certainly means elevation changes, tight tree-lined corridors, and premium on ball-striking over raw distance — the hills do the work that bunkers might do elsewhere.
South Gippsland is underrated golf country, a couple of hours from Melbourne and largely bypassed by the tourist trail. That obscurity is part of the appeal — courses like Mirboo North reward the traveller who ventures off the beaten track.
