Bang Lamung is the district that contains Pattaya, the famously hectic resort city on Thailand's Eastern Seaboard, and Phoenix Golf Club sits within that orbit as one of the area's most established and well-regarded layouts. The course occupies dramatically uneven terrain for coastal Thailand — a rolling, jungle-fringed landscape of sharp elevation changes, ravines, and water features that gives it a character entirely different from the flat resort tracks common elsewhere in the region. That topography has made Phoenix a local benchmark, regularly cited among the better courses in the greater Pattaya corridor.
The design works the hills rather than fighting them, rewarding players who manage the terrain thoughtfully. Elevated tee shots, blind approaches, and carries over water demand shot-making well beyond simple length, and the lush tropical conditioning typical of well-maintained Thai courses is reliably on show here. It plays longer and more demanding than many visitors expect.
Pattaya draws an enormous volume of golf tourism — the city supports dozens of courses within easy driving distance — and Phoenix tends to attract players who want something with more bite than the standard resort round. It functions as something of a proving ground in a region spoiled for choice.
