Few golf settings in America carry the kind of layered history that surrounds Barbers Point Golf Course. Built on the grounds of the former Naval Air Station Barbers Point on Oahu's leeward coast, the course occupies land that witnessed decades of American military history — the base was active from before World War II until its closure in the 1990s, and the surrounding community of Kapolei has since grown into what planners envisioned as Oahu's "second city."
Leeward Oahu has a distinct character compared to the island's more touristed windward and north shores. The climate here is drier and sunnier, the trade winds less predictable, and the landscape opens up toward the Waianae mountain range to the north and the ocean to the south. Golf on this side of the island tends to feel a bit more local, a bit less resort-polished — which for many players is exactly the appeal.
At par 72, Barbers Point offers a full regulation round with a sense of place that no manicured destination course can easily replicate. This is community golf rooted in real Oahu soil, with the past literally beneath your feet.
