Sun City Center is one of Florida's original master-planned retirement communities, built by Del Webb in the early 1960s about 25 miles south of Tampa. The golf course here has long been central to that community identity — not a destination track designed to impress visitors, but a members' course built around the rhythms of daily play, early morning tee times, and the kind of low-key social life that defines active adult living in the Sunbelt.
Caloosa Golf & Country Club carries the name of the Calusa, the indigenous people who inhabited southwest Florida for thousands of years before European contact — a nod to the deep history underneath these flat, sun-drenched fairways. The terrain is characteristically central Florida: open skies, palm-lined holes, the occasional water hazard doing most of the defense work, and conditions that hold up year-round thanks to the warm Gulf Coast climate.
As a private club within a deed-restricted community, access here is essentially limited to Sun City Center residents. That insularity shapes the whole atmosphere — familiar faces, standing games, and a course that rewards those who know every subtle break and prevailing afternoon breeze.
