Metung Country Club sits on the Gippsland Lakes, one of Australia's most spectacular stretches of inland waterway — a labyrinth of interconnected lakes, lagoons, and channels that defines the far eastern corner of Victoria. The town itself is a quiet, unhurried place, built around a small peninsula jutting into Lake King, and the golf course carries that same local character: a members' retreat shaped by its surroundings rather than any grand architectural ambition.
As a private club serving a tight-knit community, the course is very much the social and sporting heart of the village. Visiting golfers are occasionally welcomed, but this is fundamentally a place built for its members — people who know every bounce, every breeze off the water, and every quirk of turf that a scorecard will never reveal.
The Gippsland coast brings genuine weather variety, and the flat, lakeside terrain means that wind becomes a real factor in how the course plays from one day to the next. For those who do get access, the setting alone — water views, coastal vegetation, and the unhurried pace of Metung — makes a round here memorable well beyond the golf itself.
