One of Edmonton's oldest and most beloved public tracks, Victoria Golf Course has occupied its stretch of the North Saskatchewan River valley since 1907, making it among the earliest established municipal courses in western Canada. The layout winds through the dramatic river valley parkland that defines Edmonton's geography — a landscape carved by glaciers and now protected as one of the longest urban river valley park systems in North America. Playing here means descending into the valley, where the city above feels surprisingly distant.
The course reflects its era and setting honestly: shorter by modern standards, with routing that follows the natural contours of the riverbank rather than imposing design onto the land. Tree-lined fairways, firm turf, and elevation changes give it character that newer, flatter layouts simply can't manufacture. It rewards placement and course management over raw power.
Victoria is the kind of municipal course that holds a city's golfing memory. Generations of Edmonton golfers have learned the game here, and that continuity — affordable, accessible, genuinely scenic — gives it a warmth that private clubs rarely match.
