Few private clubs in the American West carry the mystique that Sanctuary has built since opening in 2003. Designed by Jim Engh, one of golf's most unconventional architects, the course occupies a dramatic stretch of Colorado foothills just south of Denver, where the land drops, rises, and twists with a wildness that Engh refused to tame. The result is one of the most visually striking and strategically demanding layouts in the country — a course that Golf Magazine and others have ranked among the top modern designs in the United States. Engh carved holes through ravines and over exposed ridgelines, giving players constant elevation change and panoramic views of the Front Range.
Sedalia sits at the edge of the Denver metropolitan sprawl where the plains finally give way to the Rocky Mountain foothills, and Sanctuary leans hard into that transition. Ponderosa pines, native grasses, and red-rock outcroppings define the landscape as much as any bunker or green.
Membership is deliberately limited, and the club operates with a quiet exclusivity — no professional tournaments, no outside rankings chasing. The experience is entirely for those who belong, which only deepens the allure for anyone who gets the chance to play it.
