Forsbacka Golfklubb sits along the western shore of Lake Vänern, Sweden's largest lake and one of the biggest in Europe, in the small industrial town of Åmål in northern Västra Götaland. The club takes its name from the Forsbacka area, and the course plays through the kind of mixed Scandinavian landscape typical of this lake district — mature pine and birch forest, open meadow stretches, and the ever-present proximity to water that defines this corner of Sweden.
Åmål is a quiet, unpretentious community, and the golf club reflects that character: a genuine local members' club serving a spread-out rural region rather than a tourist destination. Courses in this part of Västra Götaland tend to reward patience and course management over power, with tree-lined corridors and variable winds off Vänern keeping scoring honest across the rounds.
The region experiences proper Nordic seasons, meaning a condensed but enthusiastic summer golf calendar, and the long Scandinavian evenings of June and July allow for unhurried late rounds in soft, golden light — one of the genuine pleasures of playing golf this far north.
