Lake Texoma defines this part of southern Oklahoma — one of the largest reservoirs in the country, straddling the Oklahoma-Texas border and drawing anglers, boaters, and outdoors-minded travelers to the Arbuckle Mountains region year-round. Kingston sits squarely in that recreational orbit, a small town that punches above its weight as a destination simply because of what surrounds it. Buncombe Creek Golf Course takes its name from one of the coves and creek arms that finger out from Texoma's sprawling shoreline, and that lakeside geography almost certainly shapes what golfers find here.
Without knowing the architect or a precise opening date, what's reliable is the type: a full 18-hole, par-72 layout serving a resort and vacation community rather than a metropolitan daily-fee market. Courses in this mold tend to reward shot-making over raw distance, offering something playable and enjoyable to the weekend visitor who's in town primarily for the water.
The landscape is classic Cross Timbers country — rolling, post oak-covered terrain with red dirt and scrubby underbrush — which gives any course here a rugged, unhurried character that feels distinctly Oklahoman.
