Delacour sits just east of Calgary on the open Alberta prairie, where the Bow River irrigation canals that give this course its name crisscross the landscape — a reminder that this stretch of southern Alberta was shaped as much by water engineering as by natural geography. The terrain is flat and wide open, the sky enormous, and the wind an ever-present factor that can quietly turn a manageable round into something far more demanding.
Canal-influenced prairie courses have a particular character: few trees to block the breeze, clean sightlines, and fairways that tend to run firm and fast in the dry Alberta summers. Water features fed by the irrigation network add both visual interest and strategic consequence, rewarding players who can shape shots and manage risk across a layout that rewards course management over raw power.
For Calgary-area golfers, Delacour represents the accessible edge of the city's eastern golf corridor — close enough for a quick escape from the city, yet far enough to feel genuinely rural. Expect honest, no-frills prairie golf with the Canadian Rockies occasionally visible on the western horizon.
