Hacienda Riquelme Golf Course sits within the Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort, a residential and holiday complex in the Sucina area of Murcia, roughly midway between the city of Murcia and the Mar Menor coastline. The course was designed by José Canales and opened in the mid-2000s, part of the wave of resort golf development that transformed the Costa Cálida into one of Spain's most active destinations for visiting golfers, particularly from northern Europe seeking winter sun and reliable playing conditions.
The Murcian landscape is distinctly Mediterranean — dry, rocky hillsides dotted with almond and citrus trees, sweeping valley views, and near-constant sunshine. The course makes good use of this terrain, routing holes across undulating ground with the Sierra de Carrascoy mountains providing a striking backdrop. Water features come into play on several holes, adding strategic interest without overwhelming the layout. The overall feel is relaxed resort golf rather than stern examination.
Murcia's golf scene caters heavily to expatriate communities and package-holiday visitors, and Hacienda Riquelme fits that mould comfortably — a welcoming, well-maintained track where the scenery and climate do as much work as the design itself.
