Dunsborough sits at the heart of the Capes region, where the Indian Ocean meets some of Western Australia's most dramatic coastline — tall karri forests, limestone ridges, and the long arc of Geographe Bay forming the backdrop to daily life here. It's a tourist destination of some standing, drawing visitors to Margaret River's wine country and the surf breaks of Yallingup and Canal Rocks, but the golf club belongs to the community rather than the visitor economy. As a members' club serving a relatively small regional town, it carries the particular character of country golf in Australia: unpretentious, social, and genuinely tied to the people who live here year-round.
The Southwest of WA produces serious golfers and serious courses — Bunker Bay, Smiths Beach, and the broader Margaret River region have all attracted significant investment in resort and destination golf — but the Dunsborough club occupies a different register entirely. This is where locals play, where juniors learn the game, and where Saturday competitions carry real meaning.
The climate here is Mediterranean, with warm dry summers and mild winters, making year-round golf the norm. Expect firm, fast conditions through summer and a greener, more receptive course after the winter rains roll in off the Southern Ocean.
