The Pacific coast town of Ixtapa was essentially built from scratch in the 1970s as a planned resort destination by Mexico's national tourism authority, FONATUR — the same agency that developed Cancún. That origin story shapes everything here: wide boulevards, international hotels, and a golf course designed to match the ambition of the project. Ixtapa sits just a few kilometers from the older, more weathered fishing village of Zihuatanejo, and together they offer a striking contrast between manufactured polish and authentic Mexican coastal life.
Palma Real occupies that resort fabric, and the name — Royal Palm — signals exactly what kind of landscape surrounds the layout. This stretch of Guerrero state coastline is lush, tropical, and warm year-round, with the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains forming a dramatic inland backdrop and the Pacific humidity keeping the vegetation dense and green.
For visiting golfers, a round here is as much about the setting as the scorecard. Tropical resort golf on Mexico's Pacific side has its own unhurried rhythm — open skies, ocean breezes, and a round that tends to feel like a proper escape rather than a test.
