Chena Bend is a military golf course located on Fort Wainwright, the U.S. Army installation on the eastern edge of Fairbanks — which means access is generally restricted to active-duty personnel, veterans, and their guests. That affiliation gives the place a practical, no-frills character, though courses on military bases often surprise visitors with how well they're maintained and how seriously the membership takes the game.
Fairbanks sits in Alaska's interior, roughly 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle, and the setting shapes everything about the experience. The golf season is short but gloriously intense — summer days stretch past midnight, and playing a round under the midnight sun is one of those genuinely rare experiences the sport can offer anywhere on earth. Expect boreal forest, the possibility of wildlife wandering across a fairway, and temperatures that swing dramatically even within a single round.
Interior Alaska doesn't have a deep bench of golf courses, which makes Chena Bend the anchor of the local game. For anyone stationed at Wainwright or visiting the Fairbanks area, it's the course.
