Arizona Country Club carries one of the more distinguished pedigrees in Phoenix golf. Founded in 1910, it ranks among the oldest private clubs in the state, and its course was redesigned by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish in the 1980s — a partnership responsible for some of the American Southwest's most respected layouts. The result is a design that works with the desert terrain rather than imposing on it, rewarding strategic thinking over raw power and presenting a different challenge depending on which way the Arizona wind is running.
The club sits in the Arcadia neighborhood, one of Phoenix's most established enclaves, with the greens and fairways framed by mature trees that feel genuinely earned in a city built largely on desert floor. That canopy gives the course a different texture than the exposed desert-target layouts that came to define Phoenix golf in later decades.
As a members-only club with more than a century of history, Arizona Country Club represents a particular strain of Arizona golf — rooted, traditional, and insulated from the resort-driven reinvention that has shaped so much of the Valley of the Sun's golfing identity.
