Few private clubs in the Upper Midwest carry the institutional weight of Town & Country Club. Founded in 1888, it stands among the oldest country clubs in Minnesota and occupies bluffs above the Mississippi River on St. Paul's western edge — one of the most dramatic pieces of land any Twin Cities course can claim. The grounds have hosted significant regional amateur competition over the decades, and the club remains a pillar of Minnesota's golf establishment.
The course itself winds through mature hardwoods and takes full advantage of its river-bluff terrain, with elevation changes that demand more strategic thinking than the flat prairie layouts common elsewhere in the state. Late-season rounds, when the maples turn and the Mississippi catches the low autumn light below, are among the more memorable experiences Minnesota golf has to offer.
As a members-only club with roots stretching back to the 19th century, Town & Country carries the unhurried, tradition-conscious atmosphere you'd expect — a place where the history of the institution is felt as much as the golf itself.
