Golf Torrequebrada

Few courses on the Costa del Sol command the visual drama of Torrequebrada. Designed by José Gancedo and opened in 1976, the layout climbs and rolls across the steep hillsides above Benalmádena, with the Mediterranean spread out below in almost every direction. Gancedo — one of Spain's most respected architects of that era — made full use of the natural topography rather than fighting it, producing a course where elevation changes are constant and the lie of the ball is rarely flat. It has hosted European Tour events and remains one of the more respected tests on a coastline that has no shortage of options.

Benalmádena sits between Torremolinos and Fuengirola, well within the dense resort belt that stretches west from Málaga. The climate is reliably warm and dry for most of the year, and the combination of sea views, pines, and Mediterranean scrub gives the course a texture that purely resort-flat layouts rarely achieve.

The hotel and casino complex attached to the club gives Torrequebrada a genuine resort identity, but the golf itself is taken seriously here. Uneven stances, strong winds off the water, and some demanding carries mean this is a course that rewards local knowledge on a second or third round more than it flatters a first visit.
