Sundsvalls Golfklubb

Sundsvalls Golfklubb sits along the southern shore of the Ljungan river estuary, where the waterway spills into the Gulf of Bothnia just outside the small industrial town of Kvissleby. This is mid-Sweden's coastline at its most characteristic — birch and pine pressing close, the light flat and silvery for much of the season, and a genuine sense of remoteness despite the course sitting only a short drive from Sundsvall itself. The club dates to 1952, making it one of the more established golfing institutions in Västernorrland, a region where the short summers concentrate the sport into an intense few months of near-continuous daylight.

The layout occupies relatively flat, forested terrain near the estuary, with water and trees serving as the primary defenses rather than dramatic elevation change. Conditions here reward straight, controlled ball-striking over power — errant shots disappear quickly into the pines.

For visiting golfers, the appeal is as much the setting as the scorecard. Rounds in high summer carry that particular northern Swedish quality: long evening light, cool air off the water, and a quietness that most courses further south simply cannot offer.
