High Cedars Golf Club sits in Orting, a small town in the Puyallup River Valley at the foot of Mount Rainier. Few golf settings in the Pacific Northwest come with a more dramatic backdrop — on clear days the volcano dominates the skyline in a way that makes it genuinely hard to focus on your game. The valley floor is lush and green for much of the year, fed by the same glacial drainage system that defines the whole region's character.
As a public course in the foothills southeast of Tacoma, High Cedars serves a wide community of everyday golfers who'd rather play in one of the most scenic corridors in Washington than fight traffic to a city facility. The Pacific Northwest's mild, wet climate keeps the turf dense and receptive through much of the year, though morning rounds can mean working through low-lying valley mist before conditions open up.
Orting itself is a tight-knit community that sits unusually close to Rainier's lahar risk zones — a fact locals know well and visitors find oddly fascinating. That sense of living under something immense gives the whole area a particular character, and High Cedars carries it.
