Great Northern

Kerteminde sits on the northeastern tip of Funen, Denmark's middle island, where the Kerteminde Fjord meets the broader waters of the Great Belt. It's a small harbor town best known for its herring fishery heritage and the painter Johannes Larsen, whose vivid depictions of the surrounding coastal landscape give a fair sense of what golfers encounter here — big skies, salt air, and light that shifts constantly off the water.

Great Northern Golf Club takes its name from that maritime identity, and the course plays across terrain typical of this stretch of Funen: gently rolling farmland giving way to more exposed, wind-influenced ground as you move toward the coast. The Danish climate means conditions change quickly, and the prevailing westerlies off the belt can turn a straightforward approach into something requiring genuine course management. Playing well here in April looks quite different from playing well in July.

Funen's golf scene is quieter than Jutland's, but courses in this region tend to reward members who learn them deeply rather than tourists chasing a bucket list. Great Northern has that unhurried, community-rooted character that defines Danish club golf at its best.
