Twenty Nine Palms sits at the edge of the Mojave Desert, just outside the northeastern entrance to Joshua Tree National Park — one of the more striking pieces of landscape in the American Southwest. The high desert here runs at roughly 1,900 feet of elevation, and the air is reliably dry and thin enough to add real distance to your shots. It's a remote corner of Southern California, far removed from the manicured resort corridors of Palm Springs to the west, and the golf reflects that frontier character.
The name Roadrunner Dunes signals exactly what kind of terrain you're walking into: sandy desert soil, native scrub, and the kind of wide-open sky that makes a round feel genuinely unhurried. Desert golf in this setting lives and dies by the line between maintained turf and native desert — miss the short grass and you're dealing with nature on its own terms.
For a town best known as a gateway community to Joshua Tree and home to a large Marine Corps base, having a full 18-hole layout is a genuine local asset. This is golf as everyday desert recreation, uncomplicated and rooted in place.
