Torrington sits in the far eastern corner of Wyoming, where the state sheds its mountain drama and spreads into the high plains of Goshen County along the North Platte River. This is agricultural Wyoming — sugar beets, cattle, and wide skies — and the North Platte corridor has quietly supported a small but proud golf culture for generations. Cottonwood at Torrington takes its name from the great plains cottonwood, the tree that lines every creek and irrigation ditch in this part of the state, turning gold each October in a display that rivals anything the Rockies offer.
As a full 18-hole, par-72 layout on the eastern Wyoming plains, the course plays in a landscape defined by openness rather than elevation change. Wind is the great variable here, as it is at virtually every plains course in the region — it can transform the same hole into something entirely different from one afternoon to the next.
For travelers passing through on US-26 or Highway 85, Cottonwood offers a genuine local golf experience rooted in the working-town character of Torrington itself — unhurried, unpretentious, and honest about what it is.
