Michigan City sits at the southwestern corner of Lake Michigan, where Indiana's Dunes Country has long drawn Chicago-area residents escaping the city for cooler air and open water. Long Beach Country Club takes its name from the residential community it anchors — a shoreline enclave that flourished as a summer retreat in the early 20th century and gradually became a year-round address for those who fell hard enough for the lake to stay.
As a private members' club in this setting, the course almost certainly reflects the wooded, rolling character of the Indiana Dunes region — sandy subsoil, mature hardwoods, and the kind of terrain that rewards local knowledge over raw distance. That geography tends to produce courses where trees frame every hole and the ground game matters as much as what happens in the air.
Michigan City itself is a genuine golf town, close enough to Chicago to attract serious players but with its own unhurried pace. A round here is less about spectacle and more about belonging — the kind of club where members know each other's tendencies and the same finishing hole closes out summers year after year.
