Few courses in Northern Ireland wear their setting quite so naturally as Greenisland Golf Club, perched on the hillside above the town of the same name on the northeastern shore of Belfast Lough. The views across the water toward the Antrim coast and the Scottish hills beyond on a clear day are genuinely arresting — the kind of panorama that makes a topped shot feel almost forgivable.
The club has served the local community on the northern fringes of Greater Belfast for well over a century, and that longevity shows in its character. This is members' golf in the truest sense: a course shaped by years of quiet stewardship rather than architectural ambition, with the undulating ground doing most of the design work for it. The par-71 layout plays shorter than many parkland tests in the region, but the slopes and the wind off the Lough have a habit of complicating arithmetic.
County Antrim's golf scene extends from the world-famous links of the north coast down through less celebrated but no less enjoyable inland clubs like this one. Greenisland offers an honest, unpretentious round.
