Franklin Canyon has a legitimate claim to being one of the Bay Area's most underrated public tracks. Designed by Robert Muir Graves, the course plays through the rolling hills of Hercules in Contra Costa County, with the canyon terrain doing much of the architectural work — elevation changes are real, the routing feels natural, and the views across the East Bay hills give the round a sense of scale you don't expect from a municipal layout. It opened in 1967 and has quietly built a reputation among locals as a serious test that rewards course management over raw power.
