Hearst is one of Ontario's northernmost towns, a francophone community deep in the boreal forest where the Canadian Shield gives way to vast stretches of spruce, black bear country, and winters that last longer than most golfers would prefer. It's the kind of place where the golf season is compressed and precious, and where locals tend to know every contour of their home course intimately.
The Hearst Golf Club reflects that northern character — a community layout where the surrounding landscape does much of the decorating. Mature conifers frame virtually every hole, and the clean northern air and relative quiet give a round here a quality you won't find at busier resort destinations further south. Without a published heritage of famous architects or landmark renovations, this is a course shaped by its community over time rather than by celebrity design.
For golfers passing through on the Trans-Canada Highway or visiting the region, a round at Hearst offers something genuinely rare: 18 holes of unhurried, unpretentious northern Ontario golf, where getting outside in this landscape is reason enough.
