Few courses in British golf have reinvented themselves quite so dramatically as Centurion Club. The estate's history stretches back centuries, but its modern identity was forged when the former Members Hill layout was transformed into a championship-calibre private club — a project that brought in significant architectural work to create a course worthy of elite competition. That ambition paid off when Centurion became one of the founding venues of LIV Golf in 2022, hosting the inaugural event and firmly planting itself on the international map.
The course sits within a rolling Hertfordshire estate, and the parkland setting delivers genuine variety — mature trees, natural contours, and some thoughtfully framed approach corridors that reward precise ball-striking over raw power. It plays as a proper test for low-handicappers while remaining engaging rather than punishing for the mid-handicapper prepared to think their way around.
St Albans itself is one of England's most storied cathedral cities, just 20 miles north of London, which gives Centurion an unusual combination: genuine rural tranquility and metropolitan accessibility that few private clubs anywhere can match.
