Few resort courses in the Los Angeles Basin can claim the sheer ambition of Industry Hills. Opened in 1979 and designed by William F. Bell, the Ike course was built on reclaimed landfill in the San Gabriel Valley — an unlikely canvas that Bell turned into one of Southern California's most demanding resort tests. Named in honor of Dwight D. Eisenhower, a president famously devoted to the game, the course plays through dramatically contoured terrain, with elevation changes far steeper than the surrounding flatlands would suggest possible. Its sister layout, the Babe (named for Babe Zaharias), shares the same hillside property.
Industry itself sits at the eastern edge of Los Angeles County, where the San Gabriel Mountains rise sharply to the north and the sprawl of the basin stretches west. The setting gives the Ike a surprisingly rugged, exposed character — more muscle than polish — with firm turf and prevailing afternoon winds that can punish anything short of straight ball-striking.
The course has hosted amateur and collegiate events over the decades and built a loyal following among serious golfers who appreciate a layout that genuinely fights back. This is not a course designed to flatter. It rewards patience, course management, and a reliable shot shape, making it one of the more honest challenges available to the public in greater Los Angeles.
